Beaufort Scale

The Beaufort Scale or Beaufort Wind Force Scale is a system for estimating wind strengths without the use of instruments. This is a useful tool in estimating the wind characteristics over a large area, and it may be used to measure and describe the effects of different wind velocities on objects on land.

A Guide To Wind Speeds For Your Umbrella

BFT NO CATEGORY WIND KM/K LAND CONDITIONS
0 Calm <1 km/h Smoke rises vertically
1 Light Air 1-5 km/h Wind visable in smoke
2 Light Breeze 6-11 km/h Leaves rustle. Wind felt on face
3 Gentle Breeze 12-19 km/h Leaves & twigs in constant motion
4 Moderate Breeze 20-28 km/h Dust & loose paper raise. Small branches begin to move
5 Fresh Breeze 29-38 km/h Branches of moderate size move. Small trees begin to sway
6 Strong Breeze 39-49 km/h Large branches in motion. Whistling heard in overhead wires. Umbrella use becomes difficult.
7 Near Gale 50-61 km/h Whole trees in motion. Inconvenience felt walking against the wind.
8 Gale 62-74 km/h Twigs break on trees
9 Strong Gale 75-88 km/h Some branches break. Some small trees blow over
10 Storm 89-102 km/h Tree uprooted. Considerable structural damage occurs
11 Violent Storm 103-117 km/h Widespread vegetation damage. Roofing surfaces damaged
12 Hurricane >118 km/h Windows may break. Sheds damaged. Debris maybe hurled about.

TIPS FOR THE IDEAL WIND POSITION

Cantilever Umbrella

Cantilever Umbrella:

For all cantilever umbrellas we advise to position the arm in the direction of the wind (1), tilt knob to be engaged in hole if applicable (2) umbrella canopy to be horizontal. When closing the umbrella, the strap and protection cover need to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position

Wall Mount Umbrella

Wall Mount Umbrella:

For the Paraflex wall mount we advise to position the arm in the direction of the wind (1), completly strech out the arm (2) umbrella canopy to be horizontal (3). When closing the umbrella, the strap and protection cover need to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position

Versa UX Umbrella

Versa UX Umbrella:

For Versa UX, we advise to position the umbrella in the direction of the wind (1), put the arm in a 10° angle (2) and put the umbrella on a flat surface. When closing the umbrella, the strap and protection cover need to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position.

Monterey Umbrella

Monterey Umbrella:

For Monterey, avoid wind from below (1), Put full tension on the canopy (2) Umbrella canopy is to be horizontal (3). Put the umbrella on a flat surface. When closing the umbrella, the strap and protection cover need to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position.

Patio Market Umbrellas

Patio/ Market Umbrellas:

For our Patio/ market range, we advise to avoid wind from below (1), to put full tension on the canopy (2) and put the umbrella on a flat surface. When closing the umbrella, the strap is to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position.

Nova HD

Nova HD:

The Nova HD, we advise to avoid wind from below (1), and to put full tension on the canopy (2). When closing the umbrella, the strap or halo ring is to be correctly used. Failure in doing so can cause damage even in a closed position.
