We love a good challenge. Most umbrella installations are relatively straightforward, and can be completed with the minimum of fuss. Occasionally a tricky job comes along. A recent commercial heavy duty umbrella installation threw up some very challenging conditions. Our expert commercial installation team were up for the challenge and we are proud of the end result!
client: botswana butchery (rESTAURANT & BAR)
location: level 9 terrace balcony & LEVEL 10 ROOFTOP, MARTIN PLACE, sydney cbd
products used: 5m octagonal nova hd umbrellas, 4m square nova hd umbrellas, 4M SQUARE SKYSPAN TYPHOON UMBRELLAS, ALL WITH HEATING & LIGHTING
Difficulties we encountered during the installation:
- driving over from Melbourne with truckloads of stock and tools and navigating Sydney CBD traffic on arrival
- unloading goods into a busy laneway at 6am each day
- manoeuvring heavy and bulky items into small elevators
- working on balconies amongst outdoor furniture and other tradespeople
- time restrictions
- heavy rain
An additional challenge was that we could not perform a traditional installation that involves penetrating the concrete slab due to structural and waterproofing issues. Instead we used heavy bases that double as seating for patrons. The bases were weighted with tonnes of concrete pavers and sand to make sure the umbrellas never blow away.
Thankfully the installation went smoothly and the end result looks very impressive. The outdoor dining area is now a wonderful scenic addition to this beautiful restaurant. The customers are protected from harsh sun and rain, and our integrated LED lighting system provides glowing ambience.
